Adopt Chios Trees

Adopt Chios Trees is an environmental project founded in 2019 by Lenia Ziglaki and George Konstantelias, dedicated to the preservation, cultivation, and regeneration of traditional Chios mastiha and olive trees. The initiative allows individuals and companies worldwide to adopt specific trees, supporting sustainable farming practices and the heritage of mastiha production, which is recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Adopters receive personalized benefits, such as an adoption certificate, photographs of their tree marked with a custom sign, and natural mastiha products. The project distinguishes itself by connecting global supporters directly to the agricultural cycles of Chios, providing updates on tree health and annual impact reports.

This project serves as a bridge between the Greek diaspora and local agricultural traditions, addressing the need for environmental regeneration and support for ancient cultivation techniques. By facilitating adoptions and fostering a community of foster parents, the organization helps ensure the economic and cultural survival of the mastiha trade. The initiative has gained recognition for its commitment to sustainability and heritage, including receiving the Gold Award for Top Protected Designation of Origin Product at the 2023 Greek Exports Forum & Awards. Through these efforts, Adopt Chios Trees enables participants to engage in meaningful, long-term environmental stewardship while promoting the unique natural properties of Chios mastiha.
