AGRA

AGRA is an African-led institution dedicated to transforming the continent's agriculture from a struggle for survival into a thriving, sustainable business. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, and operating across 12 priority countries, the organization utilizes an integrated model that focuses on seed systems, sustainable farming practices, inclusive markets and trade, and policy and state capability. By collaborating with national governments, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and researchers, AGRA works to catalyze systemic change that empowers smallholder farmers—who represent the majority of farmers and produce most of the food in sub-Saharan Africa—to increase their productivity, incomes, and resilience to climate change.

The organization’s work is critical to addressing Africa’s food security, nutrition, and poverty reduction goals. By focusing on scaling agricultural innovations and fostering an enabling environment for private sector growth, AGRA helps translate national policies into tangible improvements for farming communities. Their approach is rooted in long-term partnerships and country-led transformation, aiming to build robust agri-food systems that can withstand environmental shocks. AGRA’s impact is evidenced by its multi-year initiatives, such as training millions of farmers in sustainable practices, supporting agro-dealers, facilitating significant policy reforms, and mobilizing substantial investments to advance Africa’s continental agricultural agenda.
