BionicHIVE developed SqUID, an autonomous, retrofittable robotic solution for warehouse automation. The system allowed robots to pick and move items from floor to ceiling using existing warehouse infrastructure and workflows.
BionicHIVE was an Israeli robotics startup that developed SqUID, an autonomous robotic solution designed to automate warehouse operations by picking and replenishing boxes from floor to ceiling. The system was engineered to be retrofitted onto existing warehouse infrastructure—including current shelving, boxes, and workflows—without requiring significant facility modifications. By utilizing a fleet of synchronized robots capable of both ground travel and vertical movement on rack-mounted rails, the technology aimed to combine human-like agility with industrial machine efficiency, allowing for flexible, scalable, and autonomous warehouse management.
The company's solution was intended to address the limitations of rigid, high-capital automation systems, offering a more versatile and accessible option for various logistics and supply chain environments. Backed by investors including the Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund, BionicHIVE conducted pilots with major logistics partners to demonstrate the system's productivity and reliability. However, in late 2024, the company filed for liquidation, citing severe financial distress and operational challenges exacerbated by the regional conflict in Israel, which disrupted its funding pipeline and daily operations.
