RAWS Americas offers a patented, thermally activated additive technology that enables conventional plastics like PE, PP, and PET to biodegrade at a molecular level, preventing microplastic accumulation and supporting circular economy goals.
RAWS Americas provides a patented, thermally activated additive technology designed to facilitate the biodegradation of conventional plastics, including polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The technology, known as Thermal Random Assimilation, functions by using low-temperature heat (as low as 25°C or 77°F) and surface humidity to trigger a random scissoring mechanism within polymer chains. This process breaks down plastics at a molecular level until they reach a molecular weight under 5000 MW, at which point naturally occurring environmental bacteria can digest the fragments into harmless byproducts such as carbon dioxide, water, and salt, effectively working toward the elimination of microplastics.
This solution is intended to help manufacturers and companies address environmental challenges and meet stringent global sustainability regulations without requiring significant infrastructure overhauls. By integrating seamlessly into existing manufacturing systems for both virgin and recycled materials, the technology offers a practical approach for plastics that are unlikely to be recycled. The company’s formula has undergone third-party testing to verify its performance under ISO and ASTM standards, and it is currently being trialed at scale across various sectors, including global packaging, agricultural mulch films, and non-woven applications.
