The Southern African Grain Laboratory NPC

The Southern African Grain Laboratory (SAGL) NPC is an independent, non-profit organization established in 1997 to serve as a reference laboratory for the grain and oilseed industry. It provides an extensive range of laboratory services, including milling, grading, physical, chemical, rheological, and baking analyses, as well as testing for mycotoxins and nutrients. Operating under ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, the laboratory maintains a comprehensive quality system to ensure accurate and reliable data. In 2016, SAGL expanded its operations by launching a Crop Protection Division, which complies with OECD Principles of Good Laboratory Practices to support the registration and quality control of plant protection products.

The laboratory serves a diverse range of stakeholders across the agricultural value chain, including producers, storage and handling industries, food and feed processors, seed breeders, and research institutes. By delivering internationally comparable analytical data, SAGL helps ensure product quality, regulatory compliance, and food safety standards. The organization also contributes to the broader agricultural community through proficiency testing schemes, training courses, and participation in international laboratory communities. With a dedicated team of technical specialists and advanced analytical capabilities, SAGL works to meet the evolving technical requirements of the industry while maintaining financial and operational independence.
