Antibodies to the peanut allergen Ara h 2 are the most important diagnostic marker of peanut allergy severity in patients. Current oral immunotherapy for peanut allergies feeds this allergen to patients in order to develop tolerance, and as expected it can cause detrimental reactions. We have developed hypoallergenic variants of Ara h 2 that reduce the risk of anaphylaxis. This will be a safer therapy and will improve patient compliance. Additionally, the mutants of Ara h 2 can be used to diagnose the success of therapy by identifying the development of neutralizing antibodies in patients.
