Non-intrusive acoustic and thermal sensing that reports heat flux, flow regime, and incipient failure inside operating cooling systems in real time, and engineered surfaces that control wetting, wicking, and phase change to raise the limits of boiling and evaporation.

Sponsored research and co-development on thermal management, surface engineering for controlled wetting, and non-intrusive process sensing. Open to fee-for-service thermal characterization (ASTM D5470, IR thermography, two-phase rigs) and licensing of our patent-pending methods.
About
I direct the NED3 Laboratory at the University of Arkansas. We move high heat fluxes out of compact hardware using boiling and evaporation, and measure what happens inside those systems without putting a sensor in the flow path. We design and test structured surfaces that control wetting, wicking, and phase change, plus two-phase immersion cooling for SiC power electronics, immersion-cooled motor windings, and 3D-printed titanium loop heat pipes for spacecraft radiators. Our sensing pairs wideband acoustic emission with high-speed optical and IR imaging, using machine learning to return heat flux, flow regime, and incipient failure in real time. Three US patent applications. Industry partners: Google, Safe Foods, MathWorks, NSF, NASA, ASGC. 56 journal articles, h-index 26.
