1) Characterizing rheological (i.e. flow) properties of traditionally hard-to-process fluids and slurries (e.g. biomass suspensions, oil and water emulsions, drilling fluids). 2) Understanding how particles, surfactants, proteins, behave at fluid-fluid interfaces.

Partnerships where we can help solve practical industry problems while also contributing to fundamental scientific knowledge. The focus is on funding that supports graduate and undergraduate researchers in that effort.
About
Core expertise in two areas: 1) rheological measurements of challenging-to-measure materials and systems, including biomass slurries, drilling fluids (mixtures of clay, soil, water), partially reacted suspensions, high temperature and pressure systems. This includes interfacial rheological measurements. 2) Microscopy of dynamic colloidal and interfacial systems, including imaging nano-scale and micron-scale particles, proteins, polymers, and surfactants in bulk fluids and at interfaces.
