We are developing transparent artificial-soil microcosms that mimic realistic pore structures while enabling live 3D imaging of roots, microbial motility/colonization, strain competition, and plant responses such as ROS in soil-like environments.

We seek a paid pilot or sponsored research partner to test selected microbial crop-product candidates/formulations, quantify root arrival, persistence, competition, and plant response, and identify early failure modes that standard assays may miss.
About
The Shaevitz Lab studies how living systems turn physical interactions into organized behavior. We ask how bacterial cells build, move, and sense their surroundings; how groups of cells coordinate to create large-scale patterns; and how animals transform neural activity, body mechanics, and sensory information into behavior. To answer these questions, we combine quantitative experiments, custom instrumentation, advanced imaging, computer vision, machine learning, and physical theory.
