We work on a photoheterotrophic co-culture being a sustainable platform process: The cyanobacterium S. elongatus accumulates sucrose during photosynthesis, which serves as carbon source for P. putida. It currently produces the bioplastic PHA, but synthesizes any product after genetic engineering.
