I’m looking for industry and agency partners for sponsored research, contract R&D, and paid testing/validation of bio-based polymers and biocomposites at the NIU Bioplastics Lab. I’m open to joint proposals, pilot trials, prototyping, and commercialization/licensing discussions.
About
I am an Associate Professor at Northern Illinois University and Director of the NIU Bioplastics Lab (WASTE Lab). My work focuses on developing and scaling bio-based polymers and biocomposites, including soy protein isolate systems and natural fiber reinforced materials (for example hemp-based composites). I integrate formulation, compounding, extrusion, pelletizing, 3D printing, injection molding, and compression molding to produce functional prototypes and pilot-scale materials. I emphasize processing–structure–property relationships, durability, and end-of-life behavior, supported by mechanical, thermal, and environmental testing. I collaborate closely with industry and associations to translate lab results into manufacturable, cost-informed solutions.
