Dr Karim is a geotechnical researcher focused on ground improvement and infrastructure resilience across civil and mining engineering. His research covers the constitutive behaviour of geomaterials, mine tailings dam stability, soil–atmosphere boundary interaction, slope stability, pavement geotechnics, and field monitoring. He is known for combining laboratory testing, field monitoring and numerical modelling to solve complex practical problems. His work has gained international recognition, including the ICE Telford Premium Prize (2022), and is supported by a strong record of peer‑reviewed publications and postgraduate research supervision.
