Our lab studies unique mesenchymal cells called telocytes, their role as a stem cell niche, and their contribution to tissue regeneration using mouse and human skin and intestine tissues, as well as in vitro tissue culture models.

I am seeking support for a small-molecule screen to modulate telocyte secretory programs in skin, with the goal of enhancing or arresting hair follicle growth on demand.
About
Michal Shoshkes-Carmel is a developmental and stem cell biologist and principal investigator at the Hebrew University, leading a translational research program on stromal niche regulation of tissue regeneration. Our lab uncovered telocyte networks as an essential Wnt-producing niche for hair follicle stem cells, redefining how mesenchymal cells coordinate regeneration across epithelial layers. We combine advanced mouse genetics, whole-mount imaging, and single-cell transcriptomics to dissect telocyte-epithelium crosstalk in intestine and skin. Building on this, we now aim to chemically modulate telocyte secretory programs to control hair follicle growth and arrest for therapeutic and aesthetic applications.
