Cognitive neuroscience using implanted intracranial electrode
About
We implant depth electrodes (occasionally grids) for routine clinical seizure monitoring and deep brain stimulation. During these standard surgeries, there are opportunities to record from the brain, either cortical regions or from deep structures. Research participants then complete cognitive tasks or surveys while we record brain activity, allowing unique opportunities to measure and modulate brain networks. Imaging, such as resting-state or task-based fMRI, may also be available.
