Tuning how polymer properties evolve during degradation
About
My research focuses on multiscale polymer systems for medical and sustainability applications at the University of Oxford. I study how polymer mechanics evolve during degradation through hydrolysis, water absorption and fatigue. My lab uses additive manufacturing (AM) to create biodegradable polymer metamaterials with controlled mechanical behaviour, bioresorption and mass transport, including applications in therapeutic drug delivery. Our experimental work spans materials processing, design, manufacturing, degradation, mechanical and fatigue testing, supported by multiscale modelling. We use techniques including PBF, FDM and SLA. I also explore AM and machine learning to improve recycled polymers and advance polymer sustainability.
