A UIC collaborative promoting research, innovation, and development through academic–government–industry partnerships in national security, global health, and disaster preparedness. Founded 2005 on a federal directed-energy research appropriation for the US Air Force.
The Collaborative for Advanced Design, Research, and Evaluation (CADRE) promotes research, innovation, and development at UIC by providing strategic collaborations, technical expertise, and project management in national security, global health, and disaster preparedness. Founded in September 2005 through a $5M federal appropriation for multidisciplinary directed-energy research for the US Air Force, CADRE facilitates partnerships across the academic, governmental, and industrial communities to address complex national problems.
Partners engage through an annual membership. CADRE's model centers on multidisciplinary academic–government–industry partnerships combining established products with cutting-edge research.
UIC researchers are advancing discoveries across the life sciences, engineering, computer science, energy, manufacturing, public health, biomedical and other fields. Our scientists are supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Energy, and other federal agencies.
Through UI Health, UIC offers a major academic health system with deep expertise in translational research, clinical trials, health information sciences and community-engaged healthcare. Beyond campus, UIC collaborates extensively with industry, other universities, national laboratories, government agencies, healthcare systems, and nonprofit organizations to translate research into real-world impact. From cutting-edge core facilities and specialized research infrastructure to world-class faculty and interdisciplinary research centers, UIC provides partners with access to a uniquely urban innovation ecosystem designed to accelerate discovery, commercialization and societal benefit.
