A patented glucose and lipid interceptor ingredient for pet food that supports lean muscle-to-fat ratio and metabolic health in aging animals. Reduces post-prandial glucose via transient amylase inhibition and acts as an anti-aging fasting mimetic, supporting insulin sensitivity and autophagy without changing feeding routines. Engineered for easy manufacturing in wet, dry, and treat formats.

Overview

This patented nutritional ingredient combines an alpha-cyclodextrin (aCD) dimer bound to a capric acid (C10) medium-chain fatty acid chain to support healthy body composition in aging pets. The ingredient helps maintain a lean muscle-to-fat ratio without requiring changes to feeding routines, while supporting metabolic health through multiple complementary mechanisms.

The technology addresses a growing market need for scientifically validated nutritional interventions that support healthy aging in companion animals, leveraging established EU and JP feed frameworks to avoid drug regulatory pathways.

Technical specifications

The ingredient works through a synergistic dual mechanism. In the gut, the aCD-C10 complex transiently inhibits canine alpha-amylase, flattening post-prandial glucose spikes. The natural C10 penetration enhancer increases small-intestinal absorption of aCD from approximately 2% to 50%. Once in circulation, aCD acts as a fasting mimetic, sequestering circulating saturated fatty acids and phospholipids to support insulin sensitivity and the lysosome-autophagy pathway, with hepatic ketogenesis as a secondary mechanism.

The remaining 50% that stays in the gut reaches the colon at levels below those associated with hindgut distress, supporting GLP-1 release via bacterial short-chain fatty acid production and promoting satiety. This design avoids fiber-bulking and L-carnitine-based approaches.

The high-density formulation is engineered for easy commercial pet food manufacturing, with thermal stability confirmed at 100–140°C for 60 minutes, and designed for wet, dry, and treat formats. The technology is backed by provisional composition-of-matter patents and a granted memorandum of understanding.

Technology readiness level

The technology is supported by provisional composition-of-matter patents and a granted MoU. A 12-month validation plan is structured in three phases: (1) technical transfer and matrix stability testing under industrial manufacturing stress, including thermal tolerance, moisture stability, and palatability trials across formats; (2) in vivo safety and biomarker validation in dogs and cats, including GI tolerance assessment, plasma lipidomics, and postprandial glucose and GLP-1 measurements; and (3) regulatory filings for EU/JP ingredient entry and US commercialization via NASC channels. The ingredient is positioned for near-term commercial deployment pending completion of safety and stability validation.

About ASDERA

ASDERA is a biotechnology company that develops targeted medical interventions by utilizing a patented computational biostatistics platform. This approach identifies complex genetic risk factors that were often considered inconclusive in other studies, particularly within small-scale epidemiological data or previously failed phase 2/3 clinical trials. By analyzing genetic structures and neighborhood hotspots, the company aims to uncover missing heritability and translate these findings into therapeutic candidates for conditions with significant unmet medical needs. ASDERA operates as a virtual organization that outlicenses its patented assets once development milestones are achieved.

The company focuses on therapeutic areas including aging-related health, oncology, and orphan diseases. Its pipeline includes candidates for developmental language disorders in children at risk of autism, lysosomal storage diseases, and metabolic syndrome, as well as nutritional formulations designed as fasting mimetics to improve aging-related processes. ASDERA serves the broader pharmaceutical and healthcare sector by providing a novel method for drug discovery and asset development. Its research has historically addressed various health challenges, including neurodegeneration, cardiovascular health, and infectious disease responses.
