BioResin is a bio-based ion-exchange platform for selective recovery and fractionation of egg proteins directly from un-clarified or dilute process streams. It offers high binding capacity and operates in standard stirred tanks, avoiding column clogging and membrane fouling. Two pathways enable high-purity fractions or clean-label protein-fiber ingredients using low-cost, upcycled plant-based materials.
Medium Well Technological Solutions’ BioResin platform is a low-capital-expenditure, bio-based ion-exchange solution for recovering and fractionating soluble proteins directly from un-clarified or dilute food process streams. The current focus is egg protein streams, targeting ovalbumin, ovotransferrin, and lysozyme. The platform combines high binding capacity with robust operation in high-turbidity, high-conductivity conditions, preventing the fouling and blinding issues common with membranes and chromatography columns.
BioResin is made from low-cost, highly available, upcycled plant-based byproducts, offering an alternative to expensive synthetic resins. It is designed to deliver pharma-grade binding capacity and selectivity while remaining economically viable for food-industry use. Two processing pathways are offered: BioResin-Pure, for high-purity isolation of specific functional egg fractions via mild pH/salt elution, and BioResin-Core, which captures lost proteins onto upcycled edible fibers to create clean-label, dual-benefit protein-fiber ingredients.

Intended applications:
The BioResin platform is at an early-stage validation stage. The planned roadmap includes proof-of-concept and feedstock characterization, bench-scale binding and elution screening, process optimization of stirred-tank contact time and liquid-to-resin ratio, and validation of functional properties such as foaming, heat stability, and gelation. Subsequent steps include techno-economic analysis, regulatory review, and pilot-scale demonstration at 50–200 L to produce multi-kilogram samples for end-use testing. The platform is therefore at roughly proof-of-concept to pilot-readiness stage and has not yet been commercially deployed.
Medium Well Technological Solutions Ltd. is a food technology company that has developed BioResin, a proprietary, eco-friendly filtration technology designed to optimize protein purification and medium recycling. By leveraging natural, GRAS (generally regarded as safe), non-GMO substances, the company creates advanced separation media that selectively extract target molecules based on size, charge, and structure. Their solution is intended to replace expensive, multi-stage synthetic methods with a more efficient, single-step process that can be applied to precision fermentation, cultivated meat, and other industrial applications.
This technology addresses significant cost and waste management challenges in the alternative protein sector by enabling the recycling of growth media and the recovery of lost proteins from food production side-streams. By streamlining these downstream processes, Medium Well aims to make sustainable food production more scalable and cost-effective. Founded in 2022 and based in Ramat Yishai, Israel, the company has attracted support from various industry stakeholders, including the Fresh Start Foodtech incubator, the Israeli Innovation Authority, and several corporate partners, to help bring their purification solutions to market.
