Customized industry short courses and technical workshops in sand management and petroleum geomechanics for engineers, geoscientists, and technical teams.

Training is led by Dr. Alireza Nouri, Professor of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Alberta, registered Professional Engineer, and Director of the Sand Control and Formation Damage Laboratory. Courses draw on university teaching, applied research, and industry project experience to connect engineering fundamentals with practical operating decisions.

Topics can include: • Sand-production mechanisms, prediction, and management strategies. • Sand-control selection, screen aperture sizing, and completion considerations. • Interpretation of particle-size distributions and sand-retention tests. • Screen plugging, fines migration, and formation damage. • In-situ stresses, rock behaviour, and wellbore stability. • Effects of pressure depletion and thermal operations on geomechanical behaviour.

Content is tailored to participants’ experience and the organization’s technical priorities. Sessions can combine explanations, worked examples, engineering exercises, and discussion of operational challenges. Client-provided cases may be incorporated where suitable, with confidentiality arrangements agreed in advance.

Delivery can be arranged as focused seminars, short courses, or a series of workshops, online or in person by agreement. Course duration, group size, preparation time, location, and fees are confirmed during scoping.

Suitable partners include oil and gas operators, service companies, engineering consultancies, and professional training organizations. Please contact us with your preferred topics, participant background, approximate group size, and desired dates.
