A 3D bio-printed in vitro model using Caco-2 cells to measure intestinal absorption of monosaccharides and water, providing insights into bioavailability and bio-accessibility.

Overview

This innovative solution is a 3D bio-printed in vitro model designed to measure the intestinal absorption of monosaccharides and water. Utilizing Caco-2 cells, this model aims to provide an accurate representation of human intestinal absorption processes. This technology addresses the limitations of current in vitro methods for quantifying bioavailability and bio-accessibility of nutrients, offering a comprehensive tool for research and development in nutritional sciences and pharmaceuticals.

Technical specifications
  • 3D Bio-Printing Technology: Incorporates Caco-2 cells to mimic the human intestinal environment.
  • Cotransport Measurement: Designed to evaluate the simultaneous transport of monosaccharides and water across the intestinal barrier.
  • Validation Process: Involves testing with known concentrations of monosaccharides to ensure accuracy in measuring cotransport mechanisms.
  • Applications: Useful in studying nutrient absorption, drug delivery, and the effects of various compounds on intestinal health.
Technology readiness level

This technology is currently at TRL 2, with initial design and development underway. The next steps include further validation to confirm its efficacy in measuring cotransport mechanisms.
