Novel high-efficiency pump architecture for stepless transmission and mechanical energy recovery

PHR-1 is a patent-pending mechanical power-transfer and energy recuperation architecture built around a novel high-efficiency rotary vane pump with a new vane sealing and guidance principle. The system enables stepless and bidirectional power transmission (−∞ to +∞ ratio), high pressure stability from low rotational speeds, and direct mechanical flywheel energy storage without electrical conversion. By eliminating repeated electro-mechanical energy conversions, PHR-1 targets significant reductions in system losses and improved efficiency under variable load cycles typical for mobile machinery and hybrid platforms. Initial analytical modelling indicates potential round-trip mechanical storage efficiency above 80% at system level, subject to validation.

Current work focuses on analytical modelling and feasibility validation. Methodology includes kinematic and fluid-dynamic modelling of vane behavior, volumetric efficiency estimation under variable pressure regimes, and loss mapping across operating envelopes. Planned validation steps include controlled bench-scale prototype testing, efficiency benchmarking against conventional hydraulic pump–motor systems, and integration simulations for selected use cases (e.g., mobile machinery duty cycles). Next steps involve industrial feasibility collaboration, prototype fabrication (~50k EUR budget scope), and third-party technical validation to de-risk performance assumptions prior to licensing or co-development.
