Company

Innovative modular spindle system designed for quick adaptation to varying PET preform neck sizes, enhancing efficiency in blow molding operations by reducing downtime associated with spindle changeouts.

Overview

The modular spindle system is a cutting-edge solution for stretch blow molding operations, specifically designed to address the inefficiencies caused by the need for full spindle changeouts when dealing with varying PET preform neck diameters. This system allows for rapid adjustments to accommodate neck diameters ranging from 26 mm to 38 mm without the need for complete removal, thus significantly reducing downtime and increasing operational flexibility.

Technical specifications

The system utilizes advanced mechanical design concepts, such as segmented collets, clamping sleeves, and quick-index locking systems. These components allow for adjustments accommodating ±2.4 mm in diameter and ±2.2 mm in neck height variations. The design process involves CAD modeling, finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate thermal and mechanical stress, and fatigue life modeling for over 2 million cycles. The focus is on selecting materials that offer thermal resilience, wear resistance, and manufacturability. The outcome is a validated design package, supported by simulation data, material recommendations, and a roadmap for prototyping.

Technology readiness level

The current development stage of this modular spindle system is Technology Readiness Level 5. It has been validated through extensive simulation and is ready for prototyping and further testing in real-world conditions.

About Re-Du Company

RE-DU is a recycling technology company that has developed a patented process for the chemical deconstruction of mixed plastic waste. By breaking down diverse plastic types—such as PET, PC, PU, and PA—into monomers, the company enables the transformation of previously difficult-to-recycle materials into commercially valuable chemical products. This technology eliminates the need for costly sorting of mixed waste streams and offers an efficient, cost-effective alternative to traditional plastic management systems, which often rely on outdated processes that fail to address the majority of global plastic waste.

By providing a scalable solution for chemical recycling, RE-DU aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and minimize the environmental impact of plastic pollution in landfills. The company serves as a partner for industries seeking sustainable chemical feedstocks and is contributing to the development of a circular economy. Supported by initiatives like the Innovation Crossroads Award and research collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, RE-DU is positioned to help transition toward a net-zero carbon society by proving that mixed plastic waste can be successfully converted into high-quality, reusable resources.
