Innovative imidazole-based accelerators reduce curing temperatures of DICY/epoxy powder coatings by 20-40°C, maintaining mechanical and thermal properties. Ideal for heat-sensitive substrates like wood and plastics, enhancing compatibility and performance.

Overview

This innovative solution introduces imidazole-based curing accelerators designed to significantly reduce the curing temperature of DICY/epoxy powder coatings by 20-40°C. This advancement maintains the final coating's mechanical strength, thermal stability, and chemical resistance while expanding the applicability of these coatings to heat-sensitive substrates such as wood and plastics. The incorporation of these accelerators optimizes performance in diverse environmental conditions, ensuring compatibility and long-term stability.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • Reduced curing temperature: Lowers curing temperature by 20-40°C compared to standard DICY/epoxy systems.
  • Maintained properties: Ensures mechanical strength, thermal stability, and chemical resistance are not compromised.
  • Wide applicability: Suitable for heat-sensitive substrates like wood and plastics.
  • Enhanced reaction kinetics: Imidazole derivatives facilitate nucleophilic attack on epoxy rings, reducing activation energy.
  • Thermodynamic efficiency: Utilizes hydrogen bonding and electron-pair donation for improved reactivity.

Validation procedures:

  • Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and rheological analysis to evaluate curing kinetics.
  • Testing various concentrations (0.5-5 wt%) of imidazole accelerators for optimal performance.
Technology readiness level

This technology is currently at TRL 5, indicating that the core functionality has been validated in a relevant environment. Ongoing efforts focus on optimizing formulations and validating performance across different substrate materials.
