Aluminum alloy battery cases are being developed to replace Hilumin alloy in cylindrical cells, targeting improved performance and manufacturability. The work, led by IIT Delhi with partner labs, is at TRL 4 and focuses on optimizing cell fabrication, including case design, internal welding, and case joining mechanisms, along with performance testing to validate the new casing material.

This research initiative focuses on the development of aluminum alloy battery cases intended to replace the conventional Hilumin alloy used in cylindrical batteries. The transition to aluminum alloy is expected to bring cost efficiency and improved thermal management, making it an alternative for cylindrical battery cell fabrication.
