A novel EEG-based method to decode implicit consumer responses through EEG complexity signatures, offering insights into product preference and design. This approach enhances understanding of consumer behavior beyond traditional measures.
This research introduces a pioneering method using EEG complexity signatures to decode implicit consumer responses during product and packaging interactions. By recording portable frontal EEG while consumers interact with products, this technology captures neural flexibility and responses such as cognitive ease, perceived control, and sensory pleasure. These EEG complexity signatures aim to provide deeper insights into consumer preferences and decision-making, allowing companies to optimize product design and marketing strategies beyond traditional self-report and biometric measures.
The core of this solution involves extracting nonlinear EEG features, including multiscale entropy, fuzzy entropy, entropy modulation, and transfer entropy, which quantify the brain's response to product experiences. These measures provide millisecond-level timing insights and capture dynamic neural adaptability. The technology is geared towards modeling EEG complexity signatures against product outcomes like perceived superiority, preference, and purchase intent. The research is currently in the initial phases of validation, with a structured plan to test and refine the methodology in collaboration with industry partners.
Currently at Technology Readiness Level 3, this solution is in the experimental proof-of-concept stage. A 6-month validation plan is in place, involving pilot trials to further test and develop the methodology with real-world product interactions, in collaboration with industry partners.
