HypeSound offers advanced acoustic modules that retrofit onto existing fermenters to boost fermentation yields and productivity without additives or genetic modification. These sterile, non-contact systems increase biomass yield, improve purity, and provide real-time process insights.

The Solution: The Sound Machine A retrofit, plug-and-play hardware and software system using low-frequency sound (100 Hz–6 kHz) to boost microorganism productivity without touching the biology itself. It is non-invasive, gentler on cultures than mechanical agitation, and integrates with equipment customers already run.

Key features: Non-contact stimulation — operates outside the sterile boundary, minimizing contamination risk and simplifying integration Real-time process insight — "listens" to acoustic signatures to adapt control strategies in real time Enhanced mixing & dispersion — accelerates reaction kinetics and improves selectivity Scalable deployment — structured pilot and validation phases for scaling across fermentation lines

Results / Impact: Up to 3x productivity gains Purity improved from 70% to 95% Up to 60% lower unit production costs Demonstrated: 320% increase in microalgae biomass yield; 20–30% gain in yeast titer No additives or genetic modification required

Focus Verticals: Microalgae cultivation and fermentation (both precision and traditional).

Origin & Mission: Hypesound began with an observation: during his PhD research in Mazara del Vallo, Sicily, founder Pietro noticed algae grew faster where waves crashed continuously against rocks — a natural low-frequency effect. Nature had already found this trick: pink flamingos use low-frequency sound while feeding to separate out Dunaliella salina, the carotenoid-rich algae that gives them their color. That observation became a hypothesis, and the hypothesis became Hypesound. The company's mission is to pioneer sound as a new dimension of biological control — turning a natural phenomenon into a precise, engineered tool for biomanufacturing.

The Problem Global fermentation and algae cultivation are capacity-bottlenecked. A new fermentation plant costs €400M+ and takes four years to build, even as demand for alternative protein, pharma, biofuels, and fermented food keeps rising. Existing capacity is expensive to expand and slow to scale, and the industry has lacked a way to unlock more output from equipment already in place.

Technology Readiness Currently TRL 5 — validated in relevant environments. Next phases focus on quantifying performance metrics at scale, running extensive plant trials to confirm ROI, and building a comprehensive scale-out plan for commercial deployment.
