A novel filtration system integrating nanosilver into a TiO2-chitosan matrix, designed to reduce emissions and noise in industrial labs. Proven to remove 97% of viral aerosols, it enhances air quality and worker comfort by addressing emissions and noise under 60 dB.
The Ag/TiO2-chitosan filtration system is an innovative solution targeting air quality and noise reduction in industrial laboratories. By integrating nanosilver into a TiO2-chitosan matrix, this advanced filtration technology can significantly reduce fugitive emissions, achieving up to 97% viral aerosol removal. Additionally, the system incorporates acoustic enclosures to lower noise levels to under 60 dB, thereby enhancing both air quality and worker comfort. This dual approach aligns with industrial health and safety objectives, ensuring a safer and more comfortable working environment.
The technology is currently at TRL 4. It has been validated in laboratory settings and is in the process of being optimized for real-world industrial applications. Future phases will include site assessments, system customization, and prototyping to further adapt the solution for industrial use.
National Yang‑Ming University was a national, medical‑ and life‑sciences–focused public research university in Taipei with a strong clinical orientation. The Shipai campus sat adjacent to Taipei Veterans General Hospital, which served as its principal teaching hospital and enabled rapid clinical collaboration and translation. The university also operated an affiliated university hospital in Yilan, supporting multi‑site clinical research and training. Its research was backed by competitive national funding in Taiwan, notably from the National Science and Technology Council. Following its merger with National Chiao Tung University on February 1, 2021, these programs and hospital partnerships now operate within National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University’s Yangming campus, supported by dedicated industry–academia and technology transfer offices.
