Ai-powered smart trap and digital platform for automated insect monitoring and integrated pest management

Insect Track Solutions Inc. (ITS) is a Canadian agtech company developing AI-powered technologies for automated insect monitoring and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Our goal is to make insect monitoring faster, more accessible, and more actionable by combining field-based sensing, artificial intelligence, and digital decision-support tools. Our technology ecosystem currently combines two core solutions: IPPM Now and the Smart Trap. IPPM Now is a digital platform designed to support insect identification, monitoring, and IPM decision-making by bringing together AI-assisted image identification, georeferenced observations, economic thresholds, and pest, beneficial insect, and pollinator information. The Smart Trap is a connected field-monitoring system that automatically captures images of insects collected on a sticky surface and enables remote monitoring through integration with the digital platform. Why it matters: Conventional insect scouting requires repeated field visits, specialized identification skills, and significant time and labour. Pest populations can also change rapidly between scouting events. ITS is developing tools that can complement conventional scouting by providing more frequent observations, improving access to insect information, and helping users make more timely pest-management decisions. By improving monitoring, the platform also aims to support more targeted pesticide use and greater consideration of beneficial insects and pollinators within IPM programs. How it works: The Smart Trap captures insect images in the field and communicates monitoring information to the connected platform. AI-assisted image analysis can then support insect detection, identification, and monitoring over time. IPPM Now provides the digital layer through which insect observations and relevant IPM information can be accessed and interpreted. Proof to date: Functional Smart Trap prototypes and the IPPM Now platform have been developed and integrated. During the 2026 growing season, Smart Trap prototypes were deployed and tested under real agricultural field conditions in Western Canada. These deployments generated field data and user feedback while helping identify opportunities to further improve power management, connectivity, communication, and overall system reliability. IPPM Now has also progressed into beta testing. Next steps: ITS is continuing to improve Smart Trap hardware and software reliability, expand and validate its AI models, strengthen the integration between field devices and the digital platform, and conduct additional field and commercial validation. Our R&D pipeline also includes exploration of acoustic-based insect monitoring as a potential complementary sensing technology. We are interested in partnerships involving technology validation, co-development, AI and sensing, research collaborations, integration with complementary agricultural technologies, and opportunities to adapt our insect-monitoring technology to additional applications and markets.
