Amlite heatflex recyclable high-barrier film

AmLite HeatFlex is a high-barrier polyolefin film engineered to withstand retort sterilization while remaining recyclable, matching the barrier performance of conventional non-recyclable multi-material laminates.

Overview

Retort packaging traditionally requires multi-material structures combining PET, aluminium, and polyolefin layers that cannot be recycled. AmLite HeatFlex replaces these with a mono-material polyolefin film coated with silicon oxide (SiOx) at Amcor's vacuum deposition facility in Switzerland. The retortable grade achieves moisture barrier performance of less than 1 gram after pouch converting and retort processing. Amcor invested in a dedicated production line at its Lugo di Vicenza, Italy facility in 2026. The film runs on customers' existing packaging lines without modification.

Technical specifications
  • Substrate: mono-material polyolefin with SiOx (silicon oxide) barrier coating
  • Moisture barrier (retort grade): <1g after pouch converting and retort
  • Oxygen barrier (ambient grade): <0.1 cc O₂ and <0.1g moisture
  • Heat resistance: withstands retort sterilization temperatures
  • Recyclability: compatible with existing polyolefin recycling streams; designed for EU PPWR 2030 compliance
  • Line compatibility: runs on existing customer packaging equipment without modification
  • Manufacturing: dedicated production line at Lugo di Vicenza, Italy; SiOx coating at Amcor Switzerland
