Innovative approach utilizing CRISPR technology to mitigate aneuploidy-induced stress and inflammation in iPSCs and derived cells, potentially reducing pathological effects associated with chromosomal anomalies.
iPsomics presents a novel solution aimed at addressing aneuploidy-induced stress in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and their differentiated progeny. Aneuploidy, characterized by an abnormal number of chromosomes, triggers a stress response that leads to inflammation and chronic immune activation. This stress response is linked to the pathogenic effects of chromosomal anomalies. Our approach leverages CRISPR technology to target and knockdown genes on aneuploid chromosomes, thereby mitigating proteotoxic stress and reducing inflammation, potentially offering a therapeutic pathway to treat conditions such as trisomy 21, 18, and 13.
This technology is currently at TRL 2. Experimental proof of concept has been established through initial lab-based studies. Future validation will involve further experimentation with patient-derived iPSCs to refine and validate the approach across multiple tissue types.
iPsomics is a life science start-up that specializes in developing human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-based disease models and single-cell diagnostics. By integrating single-cell genomics, transcriptomics, and organoid technology, the company creates advanced models at the cellular level to investigate the genetic and molecular mechanisms of complex diseases, particularly cancer. This approach allows for the high-resolution quantification of DNA in individual cells, providing deeper insights than traditional methods. The company operates at the intersection of academic innovation and commercial drug development, leveraging its proprietary technologies to serve research and clinical partners.
Born from academic research at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), iPsomics provides bespoke services including custom sequencing, such as cfDNA, cfRNA, ATAC-seq, and spatial transcriptomics, alongside the generation of genetically engineered iPSC models. These services are designed to accelerate drug discovery pipelines and enhance personalized cancer diagnostics. By bridging the gap between academic discovery and clinical application, the company supports partners in translating complex genomic data into actionable insights for tailored patient treatments and preventive strategies.
