This innovation introduces a new variety of tomatoes that are enriched with bioactive compounds known to offer health benefits, specifically targeting metabolic syndrome and obesity. These enhanced tomatoes allow consumers to gain health advantages without altering their eating habits. The bioactive compounds have been linked to improved lipid profiles and reduced fat accumulation, addressing a significant global health issue.

This technology is currently at TRL 5, having been validated in a relevant environment. Further development and validation are ongoing to advance its readiness for commercial application.


About Instituto de Biología Molecular y Celular de Rosario

IBR is a public research institute jointly operated by CONICET and the National University of Rosario, with more than 240 researchers, staff, and trainees across two sites: the CONICET CCT‑Rosario campus and a facility within UNR’s Faculty of Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
