Biodegradable compounds enhancing fungicide performance

Technology
Conceptual
Company

Innovative biodegradable compounds that enhance the effectiveness of fungicides in oil-in-water emulsions. These non-toxic compounds potentiate antifungal activity and can improve plant immunity, offering a sustainable solution for agricultural applications.

Overview

Ex Seed has developed three novel biodegradable compounds that significantly enhance the performance of fungicides in oil-in-water emulsions. These compounds, belonging to the class of mammalian modified metabolites, show mild to no antifungal effect on their own. However, when combined with Amphotericin B, they potentiate its fungicidal action, making them an efficient addition to agricultural fungicide formulations. Additionally, one of the compounds has been shown to enhance plant immunity, potentially offering dual benefits for crop protection and growth.

Technical specifications
  • Biodegradable and non-toxic: The compounds are safe for the environment and non-toxic to non-target organisms.
  • Enhancement of fungicidal activity: When used in conjunction with Amphotericin B, they significantly boost antifungal efficacy.
  • Potential for plant immunity enhancement: Literature suggests these compounds can bolster plant defenses against pathogens.
  • Customizable testing: Available for testing under NDA with proprietary protocols and methodologies.
Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 3, these compounds have undergone initial validation through screening for antimicrobial activity and toxicity. Further testing and validation are planned through checkerboard assays and collaborations with industry partners.

About Ex Seed

Founded in 2023, Ex Seed is a deep-tech food startup from Bulgaria focusing on plant protein innovation. The founders combined chemical engineering expertise with a sustainability ethos to tackle waste from sunflower oil production – a significant industry in Eastern Europe. Ex Seed is part of an incubator program and is gaining attention for promoting sunflower protein as the next big plant protein.
