BioClé's innovative platform leverages bacterial extracellular vesicles to deliver butyrate, enhancing its stability and efficacy in promoting metabolic health and digestive comfort. This scalable approach improves delivery to gut cells, outperforming free butyrate.
BioClé introduces a groundbreaking ingredient platform using bacterial extracellular vesicles (bEVs) to enhance the delivery of butyrate, a vital metabolite for metabolic health and digestive comfort. Traditionally, free butyrate degrades quickly, reducing its effectiveness. By encapsulating butyrate within bEVs, we ensure greater protection through digestion and enhanced delivery to intestinal cells. Our platform has demonstrated superior efficacy in a C elegans model, showing over twice the fat reduction compared to free butyrate. This technology is adaptable to powders, liquids, and functional nutrition systems, with potential applications for other bioactives.
Currently at Technology Readiness Level 3, the platform is undergoing further validation. We are advancing through in-vitro studies with human gut cell models and planning in-vivo mouse studies to assess bioavailability and metabolic impacts. Our ongoing research aims to optimize production and develop food-grade formats, paving the way for collaboration with industry partners.
BioClé is a biotechnology startup that has developed an intelligent delivery platform based on bacterial extracellular vesicles (bEVs). The technology is designed to enhance the stability, bioavailability, and targeted cellular uptake of bioactive compounds, which often lose efficacy due to degradation during digestion. By utilizing modified bacteria to produce these vesicles at scale, the company aims to solve significant challenges in the delivery of ingredients such as butyrate, allowing them to reach intestinal cells intact and active. The company employs synthetic biology and biological nanotechnology to create a delivery system that functions as a natural vehicle for health and nutritional applications.
Operating with a B2B business model, BioClé intends to partner with laboratories, nutraceutical companies, and food manufacturers by providing them with a technology platform to improve the performance of their functional products. By addressing the limitations of traditional delivery methods like capsules or liposomes, the company seeks to enable next-generation gut health solutions. Based in Rosario, Argentina, with an international outlook, BioClé was incubated at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Rosario (IBR) and is supported by investment firms including GRIDX. The company is actively validating its platform through both in vitro and in vivo studies to support commercial adoption.
