Consulting service
University

Explore the catalytic conversion of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) into wax through lab-scale tests. This process involves multireactor systems, microkinetic modeling, and comprehensive system characterization, offering valuable data for future scale-up and production planning.

Overview

This solution focuses on the catalytic conversion of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) into wax through a comprehensive lab-scale process. By using an 18 parallel stirred batch reactor system, various catalysts, temperatures, pressures, and reaction times are tested to optimize the conversion. This development provides a robust platform for acquiring detailed experimental data, which can be utilized for techno-economic and lifecycle analyses, as well as future production site planning.

Technical specifications

Key features:

  • Multireactor system: 18 parallel stirred batch reactors, each with a 50 mL capacity, allow for varied testing conditions.
  • Customizable parameters: Reaction conditions such as catalyst type, temperature, pressure, and duration are tailored based on collaborative input.
  • Microkinetic modeling: Developed from experimental data to provide insights into the reaction mechanisms.
  • Comprehensive characterization: Includes analytical methods like GS-MS, XRD, SEM, CHNS, and rheology.
  • Catalyst performance: Monitoring and analysis of catalyst deactivation.
  • Scalability: Optional upscaling with the best-performing catalyst in a 10 L reactor or larger pilot plant.
Technology readiness level

This technology is currently at TRL 6, indicating that it has been validated in a relevant lab environment. Further laboratory tests will determine optimal conditions, and upscaling is envisaged for pilot plant demonstrations, contingent upon successful lab results.
