We offer new methods for making cement and concrete, as well as methods for recycling these materials. Our material bond via a wide range of bonding mechanisms, including hydration, carbonation, oxide precipitation, and phosphate precipitation. We can make these products from a wide range of raw materials, including industrial waste products, mining tailings, and even concrete rubble. In many situations, we can avoid high-temperature processing by using low-temperature hydrothermal or solvothermal processes instead. We rely heavily on thermodynamic modeling to develop new processes and optimize them. Our low-temperature processing methods enable the invention and commercialization of composite manufacturing methods that combine raw materials not possible with current incumbent methods. This has resulted in a large number of compositions and structures of matter patents licensed by industry.

About Rutgers University

Rutgers University is a comprehensive public research university and New Jersey’s flagship, spanning campuses in New Brunswick–Piscataway, Newark, and Camden. For industry, it offers an integrated clinical and biomedical enterprise through its health system, a statewide extension network for field deployment, and campus-based incubators and pilot-scale facilities that enable prototyping and scale-up. Companies engage through sponsored research, shared core facilities, professional education, and flexible partnership models supported by corporate engagement teams. Research is supported by competitive federal funding from agencies such as NIH, NSF, DOE, and USDA. A dedicated technology transfer office manages IP, licensing, material transfer, and startup formation, providing clear pathways from lab discovery to market.
