Innovative, biodegradable citrus-derived coatings enhance the shelf-life of fresh fruits and vegetables by forming a protective barrier that reduces respiration and moisture loss. This solution leverages natural pectin and citrus fibers to preserve quality and freshness.
Our innovative solution utilizes citrus-derived coatings to significantly extend the shelf-life of fresh fruits and vegetables. By forming a protective biofilm barrier, these coatings reduce respiration rates and moisture loss, which are critical factors in maintaining the freshness and quality of produce. The use of pectin and citrus fibers, both naturally occurring polysaccharides, ensures that the solution is renewable, biodegradable, and edible, making it an environmentally friendly option for food preservation.
This technology is currently at TRL 3. We are collaborating with Kraft-Heinz to co-develop and test the solution, focusing on assessing the performance and application methods of these coatings on various fruits and vegetables.
