A sustainable, propellant-free spray system utilizing a spring-actuated mechanism and multi-orifice nozzle for personal care applications. It ensures precise droplet formation without gases, offering an eco-friendly alternative that mimics traditional aerosol performance.
The continuous propellant-free multi-orifice spray system is an innovative solution designed for personal care applications. Utilizing a spring-actuated mechanism paired with a multi-orifice nozzle, this system achieves precise and controlled droplet formation without the need for compressed gases. This eliminates the cold, gassy sensation associated with traditional aerosols. It is engineered to handle a wide range of fluid viscosities while maintaining consistent spray uniformity and sensory quality. This technology offers a sustainable and environmentally conscious alternative to conventional aerosols by reducing reliance on volatile propellants, thereby minimizing greenhouse gas emissions.
Currently at TRL 2, this technology has been demonstrated analytically through CFD simulations. Future plans include prototype fabrication, high-speed imaging validation, and iterative testing to ensure robustness and reliability for commercial deployment.
Lakehead University is a comprehensive Canadian public research university with campuses in Thunder Bay and Orillia, serving Northern Ontario with a hands‑on, collaborative approach. Industry partners engage through co‑op and work‑integrated learning, fee‑for‑service analytical facilities, and an on‑campus incubator for prototypes and venture formation. Integration with the regional hospital system supports clinical translation, and the location offers direct ties to Northern supply chains and field sites. Research is supported by Canada’s Tri‑Agency, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, and provincial and industry programs, with Mitacs enabling embedded internships. A dedicated technology transfer office provides IP strategy, licensing, and startup support.
