Innovative continuous release technology for natural anti-plaque agents aims to improve oral health by ensuring prolonged retention and efficacy in preventing early gingivitis and periodontal disease.
The development of a continuous release system for natural anti-plaque agents offers an innovative solution for enhancing oral health. This technology addresses the challenge of ensuring prolonged retention and effectiveness of anti-plaque agents in the oral cavity. By utilizing naturally derived agents, this system promises efficacy in preventing early gingivitis and periodontal disease, while remaining within safety limits recommended for oral care products.
The proposed solution leverages advanced drug delivery systems such as slow-release sol-gels and adhesives, alongside conventional delivery methods like toothpastes, mouthwashes, and sprays. The formulation process involves the use of natural extracts characterized for the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, phenolic groups, and tannins. This technology is supported by a robust testing framework, including pharmacokinetics, toxicology, and efficacy studies conducted in a nationally approved animal testing facility. The effectiveness of the agents is evaluated using biofilm regrowth tests, fluorescence-based plaque measurements, and salivary biomarkers.
Currently at Technology Readiness Level 4, this technology has undergone initial testing and validation in controlled environments. Ongoing and future validation plans include comprehensive animal testing for drug effects and efficacy, as well as clinical trials to assess plaque accumulation using validated clinical indices and advanced imaging techniques.
