Company

Optimize lactic acid fermentation with a cost-effective media solution utilizing corn starch hydrolysate and dynamic nutrient control, achieving higher conversion and lower raw material costs.

Overview

This innovative solution addresses the challenges of high medium cost and low substrate conversion in lactic acid fermentation by introducing a cost-effective media preparation strategy. By replacing glucose with corn starch hydrolysate and utilizing a balanced mixed nitrogen system, this solution reduces costs while maintaining optimal growth conditions for lactic acid bacteria. Dynamic nutrient control, including trace elements such as biotin and B vitamins, further enhances enzyme activity and lactic acid selectivity, leading to an 8% increase in conversion efficiency and a 10% reduction in raw material costs.

Technical specifications
  • Carbon Source: Corn starch hydrolysate (170–200 g/L) replaces traditional glucose.
  • Nitrogen System: A mix of yeast extract, corn steep powder, and ammonium sulfate maintaining 0.6–0.8% total nitrogen.
  • Inorganic Salts: Used to regulate osmotic pressure and pH.
  • Dynamic Nutrient Feeding: Includes biotin and B vitamins to boost enzyme activity.
  • Optimization Methods: Single-factor and orthogonal tests ensure medium robustness.
  • Sterilization: Strict protocols limit contamination.
Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 5, the solution has been validated through pilot trials, demonstrating its scalability and industrial feasibility. Further phases include industrial validation and commercial production, with goals of achieving lactic acid purity over 99% and further optimizing cost and conversion efficiency.
