Company

ecoflex® is the first certified biodegradable/compostable biopolymer produced at industrial scale, on market 20+ years. Now available in biomass-balanced (BMB) grade replacing fossil feedstock with renewables. FDA food contact compliant.

Overview

ecoflex (PBAT) is a flexible biodegradable polyester serving as standalone material and key component of ecovio. Its chemical structure allows microbial and enzymatic degradation under composting conditions. It is one of the few compostable polymers meeting both EU and FDA food contact requirements. The new ecoflex F Blend C1200 BMB replaces fossil raw materials with renewable feedstock via REDcert mass-balance certification.

Technical specifications
  • Chemistry: polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT)
  • Biodegradation: certified compostable under EN 13432, ASTM D6400
  • Food contact: EU Commission Regulation No. 10/2011; US FDA FCN No. 907
  • BMB grade: ecoflex F Blend C1200 BMB — fossil feedstock replaced with renewable via mass-balance (REDcert)
  • Market history: 20+ years of commercial production
  • Blend partner: ideal for PLA and other bioplastics, enabling applications neither material achieves alone
  • Applications: compostable bag films, food packaging coatings, agricultural mulch films, paper lamination
  • Environmental: no negative consequences for nature (OECD plant growth, Daphnia, toxicological tests)
Technology readiness level

TRL 9 — mature commercial biopolymer with two decades of production and extensive regulatory dossier.
