Eeg-guided closed-loop neurostimulation for distributed brain–computer interface applications

This conceptual project explores an EEG-guided, closed-loop neurostimulation framework designed to enable distributed and personalized modulation of cortical networks. The approach moves beyond conventional single-site stimulation by using prior EEG analysis to guide coordinated, multi-site oscillatory stimulation, with parameters adapted to individual neurophysiological profiles. The goal is to improve the precision and clinical relevance of neurotechnology and brain–computer interface (BCI) systems. Methodology relies on standard and quantitative EEG metrics, including spectral power, focal slowing, synchronization, and connectivity patterns, to identify pathological or dysfunctional network dynamics. These metrics inform targeted oscillatory stimulation strategies aimed at desynchronization, rhythm normalization, or facilitation of plasticity, depending on the clinical context (e.g., epilepsy, post-stroke rehabilitation, neuropsychiatric disorders). Proof to date is grounded in established clinical EEG practice and longitudinal neurophysiological monitoring. The project is currently at a conceptual stage (TRL 2), with next steps including computational modeling, safety and feasibility assessment, and collaborative pilot studies to evaluate translational potential.
