A suite of engineered peptides (NurP28, 19ZP1, 19ZP2, 19ZP3) derived from native maize alpha-zein proteins, designed and characterized through computational analysis for diverse industrial and biomedical applications.
This solution offers a portfolio of novel bioactive peptides derived from alpha-zein, the main constitutive protein of maize. The lead candidate, NurP28, along with three additional characterized peptides (19ZP1, 19ZP2, and 19ZP3), were identified from the 19 kDa and 22 kDa alpha-zein protein sequences. These engineered peptides are designed to serve multiple goals across potential applications in food, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, and biomedical sectors. By leveraging naturally occurring plant proteins as a source, the technology provides a sustainable, plant-based platform for developing functional peptide ingredients with tailored bioactivities.
Peptide design and characterization:
The peptides have been designed and computationally characterized through in silico analysis. The current stage involves sequence definition and structural prediction. Future validation plans, including synthesis and experimental testing of bioactivity, stability, and application-specific performance, are anticipated to advance the technology toward laboratory validation and eventual scale-up. Interested partners are invited to collaborate on downstream validation and application development.
