A novel enzymatic interesterification process utilizes immobilized lipase in an alginate-gum matrix enhanced with silica nanoparticles, aimed at valorizing local bioresources for enhanced oil production.
This innovative process focuses on enzymatic interesterification of edible oils using lipase enzymes immobilized within a unique matrix of alginate and gum from Triumfetta cordifolia. This method leverages the natural resources available in tropical regions to enhance oil production through sustainable means. The integration of silica nanoparticles within the matrix optimizes enzyme activity, providing a potential breakthrough in bioresource valorization and green chemistry.
The key technical feature of this solution is the immobilization of lipase enzymes in a mixed gel matrix, composed of alginate and gum derived from Triumfetta cordifolia. This setup is further enhanced by the inclusion of silica nanoparticles, which serve to increase the lipase activity significantly. The process involves preparing the gel matrix, incorporating the lipase enzyme, and stabilizing it with silica nanoparticles before encapsulation in calcium chloride solution. The method is designed to prevent enzyme leakage, improve the degree of interesterification, and maintain the integrity of the immobilized enzyme under varying process parameters.
This technology is at TRL 2, indicating that the concept and application have been formulated. The research is in the early stages, with ongoing efforts to optimize lipase production and improve the encapsulation process. Future validation involves fine-tuning the process parameters to enhance enzymatic activity and minimize enzyme leaching.
