FieldWatch leverages UAV imagery and advanced computer vision to automate plot detection and geospatial positioning in agricultural fields. Using Mask RCNN and RTK technology, it ensures precision and adaptability across diverse conditions.

Overview

FieldWatch is an innovative platform designed to automate the detection and geospatial management of agricultural field plots using UAV imagery. The system employs cutting-edge computer vision technology, such as Mask RCNN, to accurately segment field plots from orthomosaic images. By integrating RTK technology and GCP correction, FieldWatch achieves centimeter-scale positioning accuracy, crucial for precise geospatial estimations and 3D view generation. This platform is adaptable to various crops and environmental conditions, making it a versatile solution for modern agricultural practices.

Technical specifications
  • Computer Vision Integration: Utilizes Mask RCNN models trained with over 300 UAV images to segment field plots accurately, even under challenging conditions like weed infestations and water reflections.
  • Customized Algorithm: Employs a specialized algorithm to fill in missing plots based on grid layout characteristics, minimizing the need for manual intervention.
  • Positioning Accuracy: Achieves centimeter-scale accuracy in plot positioning through RTK technology and GCP correction, ensuring reliable geospatial data.
  • Data Compatibility: Initially designed for RGB imagery, with adaptations for multispectral images, ensuring broad applicability across different data types.
Technology readiness level

FieldWatch is currently at Technology Readiness Level 5, having been validated with a range of datasets. Future validation efforts will focus on expanding dataset diversity, including various crops and environmental conditions, to further refine and optimize the platform's capabilities.
