A transparent monolayer coating technology being adapted from PET to HDPE blow molding applications, targeting oxygen and water vapor barrier performance comparable to EVOH while maintaining full recyclability per APR standards. Designed for sustainable food-contact packaging.
This solution adapts a proven transparent barrier coating—originally validated on PET sheet extrusion—for use on HDPE containers produced via reciprocating screw blow molding. The goal is a monolayer barrier structure that delivers oxygen and water vapor transmission rates comparable to EVOH (a recognized industry benchmark) while remaining fully recyclable under APR HDPE recyclability guidelines. By replacing conventional multi-layer barrier constructions with a single-layer coated HDPE, the technology addresses two persistent packaging challenges: the recyclability limitations of multi-layer packaging and the need for cost-effective, food-safe barrier performance.
The offering aligns with growing industry demand for sustainable packaging innovations and is being developed with FDA food contact approval and overall cost competitiveness in mind.

Differentiating features:
The coating has demonstrated promising barrier efficacy, environmental stability, transparency, and QC performance on PET substrates. The current stage involves adapting the formulation for HDPE, beginning with small-scale application and adherence testing, followed by OTR and WVTR benchmarking against EVOH, recyclability verification under APR standards, QC method integration, and cost analysis. Subsequent phases will address scale-up and production trials. The technology is at an early-to-mid development stage, transitioning from a proven PET platform toward HDPE-specific validation.
