Innovative fluidic separation technology using controlled acoustic fields to enhance starch and fine solids recovery from wash streams. This energy-efficient system operates continuously, reduces water consumption, and integrates with existing systems.
The High-Efficiency Acoustically Enhanced Fluidic Separator is an innovative technology designed to optimize the recovery of starch granules and fine solids from process wash streams. Utilizing controlled acoustic fields, this system enhances the concentration of suspended solids in a continuous flow without the need for chemical additives, membranes, or high-pressure equipment. By integrating acoustically driven particle migration with optimized flow pathways, the separator increases capture efficiency while significantly reducing water usage in multi-stage washing operations. Its modular and scalable design ensures compatibility with existing hydrocyclone or washing systems, promoting sustainable practices in industrial applications.
The technology is currently at TRL 3. The development plan includes refining the lab-scale prototype, conducting bench-scale tests, and designing a pilot-scale module. Collaboration with industry partners will assess performance under practical conditions, with a future scale-up and deployment plan in place.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is a comprehensive public research university that anchors innovation and workforce development in south‑central Louisiana. Industry engages through an adjacent research and technology park that houses corporate partners and shared facilities, along with co‑located labs that enable sponsored R&D and experiential learning. An off‑campus biomedical complex supports regulated studies and translational collaborations, while Gulf Coast proximity connects partners to energy and coastal industry testbeds and supply chains. Research is supported by competitive federal and state funding, including awards from agencies such as the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health. A dedicated technology transfer office manages IP, licensing, and startup formation, with access to incubator and prototyping space in the research park.
