Innovative 3D in vitro tissue-on-a-chip models using RGD-functionalized hydrogels to mimic the extracellular environment, offering realistic responses in screening assays. The platform supports scalability from manual to robotic liquid handling.

Overview

CBio introduces a cutting-edge 3D follicle and skin-on-a-chip model that leverages RGD-functionalized hydrogels to closely mimic the natural extracellular environment. This technology provides a more realistic response in screening assays compared to conventional in vitro models on bare plastic plates. It's designed for high throughput, allowing large-scale and varied treatment applications, making it ideal for testing drug interactions and other biological assays.

Technical specifications
  • 3D Hydrogel Environment: RGD-functionalized hydrogels mimic specific environmental niches.
  • Scalable Platform: From manual pipetting to manifold-assisted multi-treatment applications and robotic liquid handling.
  • Flexible Plate Formats: Compatible with standard 96 or 384 well plates and custom microfluidic plates with 48 migration chambers.
  • Multiplex Imaging: Brightfield microscopy for proliferation and migration imaging; multichannel fluorescence microscopy for multiplex assays.
  • High Throughput Capability: Supports multiple biological replicates or various treatment combinations simultaneously.
Technology readiness level

Currently at TRL 2, this technology is in the early validation phase. Further development will focus on functionalizing hydrogels to mimic the skin or follicle microenvironment and refining treatment application protocols. The project aims to reach a proven application ready for scaling within 10 months.
