UPLI is developing recombinant human alpha-lactalbumin, the key whey protein in human breast milk, using a proprietary precision-fermentation platform. Human α-lactalbumin is naturally designed for human digestion and metabolism, supporting efficient protein utilisation, gut and immune health, and pathways linked to mood, sleep, and metabolic balance. Despite its importance, it is largely missing from today’s nutrition products, which rely on bovine whey proteins that are less biologically aligned. Our process is designed to produce human-identical alpha-lactalbumin at a cost that can be lower than bovine alpha-lactalbumin, enabling use across everyday nutrition. We have completed proof-of-concept expression and are now optimising the process toward pilot-scale production, validation, and regulatory pathways for adult, medical, and infant nutrition.
UPLI is a biotechnology research company focused on developing bio-aligned protein ingredients designed for human health and longevity. Founded by a physician and protein scientists, the company creates ingredients that aim to support body function and adaptation by treating nutrition as a functional, daily health intervention. The organization operates under UPLI LTD, which is registered in the United Kingdom and specializes in research and experimental development within the biotechnology sector.
The company's approach is centered on rethinking food production to create healthier, science-backed nutritional solutions. By targeting functional health outcomes, UPLI seeks to bridge the gap between dietary consumption and medicinal benefits, providing products that cater to consumers interested in longevity and preventative health. Their development efforts are grounded in professional scientific research to ensure their protein ingredients effectively meet human biological needs.
