Innovative antiperspirant hydrogel leveraging chitosan and hyaluronic acid to reduce side effects of traditional aluminium-based products. Offers enhanced skin hydration, antimicrobial action, and a pleasant fragrance. Targeting commercialization within a year.

Overview

This innovative antiperspirant formulation leverages a hydrogel base composed of chitosan cross-linked with hyaluronic acid, enhanced with curcumin and limonene. Traditional antiperspirants often rely on aluminium salts, which can cause skin irritation and other side effects. This novel formulation aims to mitigate these issues by using natural and biocompatible ingredients that not only reduce perspiration but also offer additional skin benefits such as hydration, antimicrobial action, and a pleasant fragrance.

Technical specifications

Key components:

  • Chitosan or Alginate: Serves as the gelling and antimicrobial agent.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: Acts as a moisturizer, enhancing skin hydration.
  • Triethanolamine: Used for pH stabilization.
  • Curcumin: Provides antimicrobial and skin-nourishing properties, effective against Staphylococcus epidermidis.
  • Limonene: Adds fragrance to the formulation.

Development phases:

  • 0-3 months: Procurement of chemicals and initial antibacterial and cytocompatibility testing.
  • 3-6 months: Incorporation of curcumin and limonene, optimization, and further characterization.
  • 6-9 months: In vivo evaluation and assessment of antiperspirant effects.
  • 9-12 months: Preparation for commercialization.
Technology readiness level

The technology is currently at TRL 4, indicating that it has been validated in a laboratory setting. The next steps involve further optimization and in vivo testing to advance towards commercial readiness within the next year.
