Impetus Ag offers a breakthrough in Bt trait rescue, using bispecific VHH antibodies to regain control over resistant Fall Armyworm (FAW). This technology targets both topical and transgenic applications, enhancing potency and durability of Bt toxins.
Impetus Ag has developed a novel approach to combat resistant Fall Armyworm (FAW) by utilizing bispecific VHH antibodies (BsVHH). These antibodies 'tether' Bt toxins to novel mid-gut receptors, effectively restoring control over resistant strains. This innovative solution is applicable in both topical applications, where BsVHHs are expressed in Bt strains for spray-on use, and in-plant applications, where they are co-expressed with Bt transgenes to enhance durability. The technology is modular, potentially extending to other pests such as Corn Earworm (CEW) and Diamondback Moth (DBM).
The technology is currently at TRL 4, with ongoing validation processes. Phase 1 focuses on optimizing BsVHH lead candidates, quantifying expression, and running GLP-like diet assays. Phase 2 will expand validation to other pests, refine manufacturability, and conduct greenhouse tests on conventional and traited corn. The aim is to reach TRL 5 with further development.
